In bLIS, all accessions are tied together by a single subject (i.e. “donor”). The hierarchy looks something like this:
This means if any demographic information (Donor ID, date of birth, etc) is updated, then it will impact all accessions that are attached to that subject. This is intentional so updates do not need to be made across multiple accessions, potentially leading to error.
The tradeoff is that if a single accession has a mistake in demographic information, there are extra steps to correct the information:
A subject is created when accessioning, primarily by clicking the + button in the create accession view. If the subject has already been created, skip ahead to step 2.
If the desired subject has not been created, click this button to open the donor create dialog:

Enter the new subject information, and click Create

At this point the new subject is in the system, and a new accession does not need to be created.
Go to the accession detail view for the accession that needs correction, and select Menu → Edit → Edit donor info

In the Edit Donor dialog, enter the new donor ID in the Donor ID input. Again, the donor must exist in the system for this to work properly (see step 1).
For this step, only the Donor ID matters, the rest of the demographic information does not need to be entered (since it already exists in the system). Double-check the donor ID has been entered correctly.
