Entering a Result

1

Open the accession

Navigate to the accession containing the test order you want to enter results for.
2

Select the test order

Find the test order in the accession’s test list and click on it to open the result entry form.
3

Enter the result value

Type the result value into the entry field. The expected format depends on the result type:
  • Numeric — Enter the number (units are shown automatically)
  • Text — Select from the dropdown list of valid values
  • Free Text — Type your findings
4

Review flags and alerts

After entering the value, bLIS will automatically check for:
  • Abnormal flags — Result is outside the normal reference range
  • Critical flags — Result is in a critical range requiring immediate attention
  • Delta check alerts — Result differs significantly from the subject’s previous value
5

Save

Click Save to record the result. The test order status will update to reflect that a result has been entered.

Validating Results

After a result is entered, it may need to be validated before finalization:
1

Review the result

Open the test order and review the entered result value, reference ranges, and any flags.
2

Confirm accuracy

If your lab uses double-entry validation, enter the result independently. bLIS will compare the two entries and flag any discrepancies.
3

Mark as validated

Click Validate to confirm the result is accurate and ready for finalization.
Your lab’s validation requirements depend on its configuration. Some tests may require double-entry validation while others may only require a single review.

Finalizing Results

Finalization is the last step — it locks the result and makes it available for reporting:
1

Review all validated results

Check that all results for the accession have been validated and are ready for release.
2

Finalize

Click Finalize to approve the result. Once finalized, the result cannot be changed without special authorization.
Finalization is permanent. Once a result is finalized, it is locked and will appear on generated reports. Double-check all values before finalizing.

Instrument Results

Some test results are received automatically from connected lab instruments rather than being entered manually. Instrument results follow the same validation and finalization process, but the entry step is handled automatically.
Instrument-received results are marked with an indicator showing which instrument provided the result, so you can trace the source of every value.
