4

Select the tests or panels to be performed. You can search by test name or browse available panels.

Receiving Specimens

When specimens arrive at the lab, they need to be received into bLIS:
1

Find the accession

Search for the accession by ID or scan the specimen barcode.
2

Verify the specimen

Check that the specimen label matches the accession, the specimen is in acceptable condition, and sufficient volume is present.
3

Record any issues

If the specimen has quality issues (hemolyzed, lipemic, insufficient quantity, etc.), flag them during receiving.
4

Mark as received

Confirm receipt to update the accession status. The ordered tests are now ready for processing.
Always verify specimen identity before receiving. Receiving the wrong specimen can lead to incorrect results being associated with a subject.

Tracking Accession Status

The Accessions list shows all accessions with their current status. You can filter by:
  • Status — Created, Received, In Progress, Completed
  • Priority — Routine, Urgent, STAT
  • Date range — Filter by creation or received date
  • Organization — View accessions for a specific client organization

Placing an Accession on Hold

If work on an accession needs to be paused (for example, waiting for a replacement specimen), you can place it on hold:
  1. Open the accession
  2. Select Place on Hold
  3. Enter a reason for the hold
  4. The accession will be flagged as on hold until it is released
Accessions on hold are visually highlighted in the accession list so they’re easy to identify and follow up on.
